Dental Implants
For the first time in history Dentists can put in tooth replacements. Whenever there is a space or where a tooth has to be removed, a decision has to be made as to what to do. The options for every space or potential space are:
- Leave the space alone.
- Use some form of denture.
- Use some form of bridge.
- Use implants.
Some positions mean that leaving a space is not possible. Dentures can give good results for appearances, but can be difficult to live with. Bridges can give excellent results, but in the main mean that there has to be enough teeth to act as supports for the false teeth. Implants can give support without damaging other teeth. So for every space there will some answer. The last option of implants has revolutionised dentistry. This option is so flexible in that implants can replace one tooth or all teeth. They can be used to hold a denture steady or can completely replace it. It is an immensely complex area of dental treatment continuously evolving. Each person has to have an assessment to provide a diagnosis and set of treatment plans.
