What Is Invisalign Treatment?
Invisalign treatments first appeared in the orthodontic industry in 1997 and since then has treated over 11 million patients across the world. Invisalign treatment is where transparent, bespoke braces slot into a patient’s mouth to realign and straighten their teeth. Patient’s wear a series of custom made clear aligners that gently and gradually apply pressure on the teeth to gain the perfect, straight smile they are looking to achieve Orthodontic treatment, such as traditional metal braces, can be substituted with Invisalign clear aligners, which are made using non-toxic, high-quality, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved medical-grade thermoplastic polymers.
The clear aligners are a favoured alternative to traditional train track braces, where they provide subtle corrective treatment to a patient’s teeth discreetly, without major disruption to their appearance or way of life. Invisalign aligners are invisible when fitted in the mouth, and can be removed whilst eating or drinking. For quick results, patients are recommended to wear their aligners for up to 20 hours a day – you can wear them for less, but this could increase the time taken for the course. (Courses normally vary between 12-24 months depending on the individual case).
How Does Invisalign Treatment Work?

During your first consultation, you will discuss your desired smile and using Smile Technology, Dr Tonks can provide you with an image of what your smile could look like after Invisalign treatment.
Once you have discussed the treatment and the results you are wanting from your Invisalign treatment, a mould of your mouth is taken and your Invisalign aligners are custom made using medical-grade plastic. These aligners then gently encourage your teeth to shift and move, with constant gentle pressure. Progress is checked every few weeks where the aligners are then changed until your chosen teeth alignment is reached.
Will Invisalign Treatment Work For Me?
As long as you’ve lost all of your baby teeth, then Invisalign treatment should be able to work for you.
