Invisalign® Orthodontist Banbury – Your Frequently Asked Questions

2nd December 2022 Invisalign

Invisalign® is everywhere, so many young people and adults are opting to transform their smile with cost-effective, easy and discreet clear aligners. However, how much do you know about the Invisalign® treatment?

Looking for Invisalign® Oxfordshire – choose 41 South Bar? Our team of Banbury orthodontists has compiled the answers to all of the most asked Invisalign® treatment questions.

What Is Invisalign® Treatment?

Invisalign® is a discrete alternative to traditional train track braces. Patients will wear clear, plastic aligners, which will gradually encourage the teeth to move into the desired position.

Invisalign® treatment at 41 South Bar will be carried out by our resident Invisalign® orthodontist, who will tailor your treatment to your specific needs. Treatment length will vary depending on the severity of the case. Invisalign® comes with a range of benefits see our blog post ‘top benefits of choosing Invisalign® treatment’ to find out more.

Can Invisalign® Move Or Change My Jawline?

As your clear aligners encourage your teeth to move positions, they can also move and change your jaw. However, as all treatment varies, your jaw may be adjusted slightly or not at all. By encouraging the teeth to move, the clear aligners can align your jaw, by lifting and angling the teeth and the mouth’s arch. It is worth noting that orthodontic treatment can slightly change the appearance of a patient’s face.

At 41 South Bar, we also offer a wide range of facial aesthetic treatments, so if this is something you wanted to look into, we may have a suitable treatment for you.

Who Is Suitable For Invisalign® Orthodontic Treatment?

As Invisalign® is a clear and virtually undetectable brace alternative, it is suitable and appealing to a wide audience. In general, teens aged 13 and over as well as most adults. All potential candidates for Invisalign® are invited to a free initial consultation, where their teeth will be assessed and their desired outcome of the treatment will be discussed. In rare cases, Invisalign® may not be a suitable option for them, however, the majority of the time, Invisalign® is suitable for most orthodontic conditions.

However, to achieve the best results in a timely manner, patients are recommended to wear the retainers for up to 20 hours a day, so a suitable candidate must be able to adhere to those conditions before signing up for Invisalign®.

Can Invisalign® Fix Gaps?

Invisalign® is regularly used by patients who would like to reduce the appearance of gaps between their teeth. Your clear aligners will be designed specifically to help close those gaps for you. Invisalign® can be used to successfully correct a wide range of teeth positions, our latest blog Invisalign® treatment Banbury – how Invisalign® works, may be able to answer some of your questions as well.

What Is Invisalign® Made Of?

Invisalign® is made from a firm but flexible medical grade plastic which has been specifically designed for the use of dental treatment, known as polyurethane resins. Moulds will be taken from your teeth and gums, which are then used to create your very own set of polyurethane resins.

Patients will receive a set amount of aligners, which will differ depending on the severity of their case. Most treatments will receive 10-12 clear aligners throughout their course, all made from the same comfortable, medical-grade plastic. What Happens If I Break My Invisalign® Aligners?

When you are given your first set of Invisalign® aligners, your 41 South Bar Banbury orthodontist will give you instructions on how to care for your aligners. However, when you wear something for the majority of the day, there is always a small chance of your aligner being damaged or cracked overtime.

If this happens, you should contact your Banbury orthodontist straight away. In the meantime, you should try to move to your backup pair of aligners, this could be your previous set, or your new set if you have them already. If neither the new nor the previous aligners fit your teeth, let your orthodontist know and we can arrange to create a new set of aligners to replace the broken or cracked ones.

You should not try to continue using the broken aligners. To avoid damaging your aligners, when you’re not wearing them, you should always store your Invisalign® aligners in their case.

Can I Still Have Invisalign® If I Have Had Braces In The Past?

This is one of the most common questions our team of Banbury orthodontists receive. The answer (the majority of the time) is yes. Many patients come to us, wishing to fix misaligned teeth caused by not continuing to use their retainers after undergoing traditional brace treatment in their youth.

Before you can start your journey to straighter teeth, you will first need to be assessed by our team, to ensure that the Invisalign® can help you. In some extreme cases, the only course of action is further orthodontic treatment, not aligners. Our past case studies have seen many successful courses of Invisalign® treatment.
