Five Things You Should Know About Our Invisalign®Treatment Banbury
Invisialign® is an increasingly popular orthodontic treatment across the world, helping patients transform their smiles with clear aligners opposed to traditional train track braces. Our Invisalign® Banbury treatment is provided by our dentist Dr Richard Tonks. In this blog we will cover what invisalign is, what foods you can eat during your treatment, how visible your aligners will be and more.
What Is Invisalign® Treatment?
Invisalign® is a discrete alternative teeth straightening treatment, where clear aligners are made bespoke for your individual requirements. Invisalign aligners can be worn for 20+ hours a day, providing a constant gentle pressure onto your teeth, encouraging them to move into the desired position.
Unlike traditional braces, when you wear visible brackets and wires over your teeth, Invisalign® clear aligners are worn and adapted throughout your treatment as your teeth move to ensure the perfect smile.

1) Invisalign® Aligners Are Custom Made
Once you’ve had your initial consultation with Dr Richard Tonks regarding your Invisalign® treatment, we will then take moulds of your teeth and mouth to create your bespoke aligners. Your moulds are then used to create a custom made set of aligners for you, which over-time will move your teeth into your chosen placement. Over the course of your treatment you will receive several sets of aligners which will need to be worn for a specific amount of time, this will be explained in detail to you during your appointment.
2) You Can Eat Normally
One of the main differences between Invisalign® treatment and traditional braces is that you can eat normally. With traditional wire braces, there are a fair few foods which you are recommend to avoid including:
- Chewy and sticky foods – chewing gum, sweets and bagels
- Crunchy foods – crisps and popcorn
- Hard foods which require biting into – apples, corn on the cob, carrots
However, with Invisalign®, you can enjoy all the foods you would normally eat. Simply remove your aligner before eating and replace once you’ve finished.

3)Invisalign® Aligners Can’t Be Seen
Invisalign® aligners are designed with you in mind. The clear aligners can easily slot onto your teeth and are virtually invisible when in place. The smooth, translucent medical grade plastic is hard for others to spot when worn to give you the confidence to go about your day to day life, safe in the knowledge that your Invisalign® aligners won’t be seen by your friends or family.

4) It Is Important To Brush & Floss Your Teeth Regularly
While it is important in general to practise good dental hygiene, during your Invisalign® treatment oral hygiene is even more important. As you are wearing your clear aligners for up to 20 hours a day, it is important to ensure your teeth and gums are clean. Brushing and flossing your teeth regularly throughout your treatment will ensure that no particles get stuck under your aligners.
Removing your aligners twice a day to clean them and your teeth is a great way to prevent any potential issues during your treatment. While tempting, please never clean your aligners with a toothbrush as this can damage and scratch them, our dental team will be able to recommend the best cleaning solutions to help keep your Invisalign aligners in tip top condition. 5) What Happens When Your Teeth Are In The Desired Position?
When you are happy with the positioning of your teeth, you will be invited back to our Banbury Dental Practice, where Dr Richard Tonks will assess your teeth. You will be given a custom made retainer, which will help keep your teeth in their new position. The retainer will have to be worn for a set timeframe discussed with you. Depending on the severity of your treatment, you may need to wear the retainer for longer.
